Le Centre d’action bénévole L’Actuel will be on strike for the first time ever, on November 2 & 3, 2015
L’Actuel will be participating in the November 2nd and 3rd strike days proposed by the two campaigns who joined forces to organize this important action: « Je tiens à ma communauté, je soutiens le communautaire » (I need my community and sustain it) and « Les droits, ça se défend » (your rights deserve to be defended) conducted by the Regroupement des organismes en défense collective des droits (RODCD).
Both campaigns are demanding better funding for the mission of autonomous non-profit community organizations but also to denounce austerity measures. There will be many actions throughout Québec and our region, during these two days.
The Federation of Volunteer Centres of Québec (FCABQ) supports this campaign since its inception and invites us to massively take part in the various proposed actions. The Federation is convinced that we must respond collectively to give a clear message and finally be heard!
By this action, L’Actuel wants to sensitize and mobilize the population on the issues of under-funding and government cutbacks to social services and programs and to the seriousness of the situation. The underfunding of non-profit community organizations didn’t start yesterday and austerity weakens community organizations and prevents them from fully carrying out their mission.
“Meeting the needs of the community has always been a priority for L’Actuel and we remain conscientious to adequately respond to the multiple requests received. When funding is cut, we cannot respond to these requests. These last cuts will have a direct impact on our beneficiaries and it is our responsibility to defend their interests. Services formerly provided by the government are now imposed on us and it shouldn’t be our responsibility to replace the state. Our values have a price and we demand funding equivalent to the work being done in the community, by the community.”
